When Livingston Mayor Al Anthony visited Aquinas Academy in February, he, along with students and administrators, cut the ribbon to open the school’s new Innovation Center. Developed as an exceptional resource for 21st-century learning, this modernized classroom offers advanced technology and media capabilities for all ages. The center’s array of learning tools includes a video green screen, podcast recording equipment, a 10’ x 10’ think tank for collaborative learning, and a 70” ActivPanel Promethean Board. This interactive board gives students a tablet-like experience at the front of the classroom, allowing teachers and students to collaborate with ease. Students will make use of laptops, tablets, robotic and coding equipment, recording and editing activities and much, much more. The Innovation Center truly provides a glimpse of tomorrow’s classroom.
Students will visit the Innovation Center twice a week to engage in various collaborative tasks. The layout of the room is designed with multiple options from which students may choose, including space for the most introverted or extroverted of children. Mr. Cohrs notes that “the idea behind this space is to provide students with an abundance of choice. Giving the children input into their learning strengthens core values and systems thinking in addition to curriculum content. This center is the future of student engagement in the classroom.”
